Richmond Home

What Is Home?

“America is supposed to be a place where you can better yourself, your family, and your community. But this is only possible if you have a stable home.”

“Every year in this country, people are evicted from their homes not by the tens of thousands or even the hundreds of thousands but by the millions.”

-Matthew Desmond, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City

One Book, One Richmond encourages University of Richmond students, staff, and faculty and members of the Richmond community to read and discuss a selected book on a social justice issue. The 2016-17 One Book, One Richmond selection is Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond.

In conjunction with this year’s One Book, One Richmond selection, Downtown Ambassadors and the One Book, One Richmond Committee are inviting individuals to answer the question, “What is home?,” on campus and throughout the Richmond community. The answers will be part of a special installation at the UR Downtown during RVA First Fridays on February 3, 2017, 5-7 p.m.
